A kinetic facade that breathes—transforming architecture into a living surface

Project Lotus is a dynamic architectural facade system developed by Giles Miller Studio, exploring how buildings can respond to environmental conditions through movement and material intelligence. Inspired by natural forms—particularly the opening and closing of petals—the project transforms static surfaces into kinetic skins that shift with light, airflow, and human interaction.
The installation is composed of modular, tessellated elements that subtly rotate or flex, creating a constantly changing visual texture. As daylight moves across the surface, the facade produces shifting reflections and shadows, enhancing both aesthetic depth and environmental performance. This responsive behavior not only creates a poetic architectural expression but also contributes to passive climate control by regulating light and heat exposure.
